Emily Kimball
Born and raised in Maine, Emily Kimball is a 22-year-old composer and songwriter, in her final semester of the Music Technology program at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts.
Notable musical experiences from early life include: being an inconsolable baby unless Rubber Ducky was being sung, conducting an "orchestra" of her kindergarten peers playing rubber-band-box instruments, and starting a rock band in the second grade that played 'Tis a Gift to be Simple at an elementary school assembly.
Since these promising first starts, she has studied piano, bass, acoustic and electric guitar, tambourine and voice. She started composing folk/rock songs at the age of 15 that she performed as a singer and guitar player. At 17 she recorded a short four-song EP, and is currently working on a longer recording of her songs. Songwriting continues to be an important part of Emily's life, even as her compositional aspirations have grown to encompass other diverse areas.
At Northeastern Emily was introduced to an incredible array of music, ideas and compositional tactics, concerning both acoustic and electronic music. Presently, she enjoys writing music for live instruments, fixed media, interactive electronics, or any combination of the three. Previously trained as a ballerina, Emily aspires to one day collaborate with dancers and choreographers to combine her love of music with her love of dance.
After earning her BS in Music Technology in May, Emily hopes to go on to graduate school to further her study of composition.
