Brian Dixon
Born and raised in Hopewell, NJ, Brian first became interested in music when his sister, Karin, began learning to play the piano. Wanting to follow his big sister's footsteps, he started taking lessons in elementary school. His focus turned to classical guitar after a some time, leading him to study the instrument with a friend of the family. Brian played electric guitar and bass in a few bands throughout high school, giving him his first real taste of the compositional process and eventually allowing him to experiment with home recording techniques.
During his senior year in high school, Brian was convinced by a friend to join the chorus and has continued singing in ensembles in college. Brian sang with the Downbeats a cappella group for a few years and has served as Music Director. His time in the ensemble also let him develop his skills at writing vocal arrangements and gave him an opportunity to record, engineer, and produce a full-length album with the group.
Brian's creative background has additional roots in the visual arts, causing him to pursue a dual degree in Multimedia Studies and Music Technology at Northeastern. The dual program has allowed him to continue working with visuals and introduced him to new tools. Using what he has learned, Brian worked as a co-op and part-time employee at Paid Inc. in 2008 as a Flash programmer.
Over the past five years, Brian's musical studies at Northeastern have led his current compositional focus towards electroacoustic and mixed-media works. A growing exposure to interactive systems has created a recent interest in installation art featuring sound or music as well.
Brian is currently working on one video work and one electroacoustic piece to be premiered at the Concert Of Digital Artists on April 4, 2009.
