Daniel Birnbaum
Daniel Birnbaum is originally from Ithaca, NY where he first found his passion for music. At the age of five, he began his classical training in cello through the Suzuki method taught by Sera Smolen. At the age of eight, he fell in love with singing and joined many choirs throughout the years; singing with the Ithaca Children's Choir, Vitamin L Chorus, and was featured in several Ithaca College performances under direction of Janet Galvan. Daniel later went on to take cello lessons with Hank Roberts, adding improvisational and jazz styles to his classical repertoire.
In 2003, Daniel went to Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY where he studied with David Shaw and John Nyerges. He completed his associates in Music Production & Engineering in 2005, and had a very successful year as an electronic music disc jockey, playing in Toronto and all around the Northeast U.S. It was also during this year that one of his remixes, with fellow production partner Chester Wong as 'The Mentalists', climbed up to #4 on Billboard dance/club play charts for their remix of Simone Denny's "Cliché".
In 2006, Daniel moved to Boston to obtain his Bachelors of Science in Music Technology. In the past three years, he has studied the art of composition with Chris Bailey, Doug Durant, Mike Frengel, Dennis Miller, Ron Smith, and Su Lian Tan. He has had the opportunity to premier a few of his works at the Fenway Center in Boston, giving the world its first exposure to Daniel's original compositions.
Besides composing at Northeastern, Daniel has also been the vocal percussionist for Northeastern's acapella group, the Nor'easters; competing in the ICCA's two years in a row. While still a little unsure about his career plans after graduating in May, Daniel is sure that he will succeed in the music industry with his ability to capture his audiences with memorable performances.
